Our sustainable timbers

Here at The Shutter Studio we believe we have an environmental responsibility to ensure our timber is sustainably sourced. It is estimated that illegal logging costs timber-producing countries between 10 and 15 billion Euros per year and around 50% of Tropical deforestation in Central Africa, the Amazon Basin and South East Asia is as a result of illegal logging.

In March 2013, the EU introduced legislation to eradicate the import of illegally logged timber by requiring businesses to mitigate the risk using due diligence systems. Although the legislation did not cover products relating to shutters and other window furnishings we wanted to do what we could to help mitigate the problem.

The Shutter Studio’s timber sourcing policy aims to minimise the possibility of any illegally logged timber entering our supply chain. To achieve this we audit our vendors through a due diligence system to provide evidence of traceability from forest to factory. Our products are manufactured from several timber species, all of which are now traceable through this program. Our key partner for timber products is the worlds leading manufacturer of window furnishings, who also take their responsibility seriously.

As one of the UK’s market leaders for made-to-measure window furnishings, The Shutter Studio aim to ensure our environmental and future legal responsibilities are met. With continual close co-operation with our key supply partners, we can be confident that the timber used in our products is sustainably sourced.
